THE OWNERS of the popular Queen of Hoxton pub in Shoreditch have opened another bar, The Book Club, just streets away.

The Book Club, occupying two floors of a converted Victorian warehouse, is aimed at being the 'chic younger sibling of the Queen of Hoxton'.

It is at 100-106 Leonard Street, Shoreditch, on the site previously occupied by Home, and is open until midnight Sunday - Monday, and 2am Thursday - Saturday.

Despite its name, the bar is not aimed at just having a quiet drink and a good read but is also looking to be a cultural hub in the area.

Jon Ross and Andy Maddocks, owners of the Mothership Group, behind the Queen of Hoxton, which opened in March, have a series of events planned.

The night-spot has come up with an eclectic programme of film screenings, music events, and craft-based attractions.

These include DANCE!, where performance artist Jonny Woo will be giving classes then going behind the decks so the pupils can show off their new-found skills.

Other classes range from Death Drawing, a take on traditional figure studies using taxidermy, to music sessions with composer Jordan Hunt.

Heather Lawton, creative director for the Queen of Hoxton, is also overseeing events at The Book Club, which held its official opening last week.

The venue is looking to attract businesses and organisations for meetings and has free wi-fi, private meeting spaces and screening facilities.

Newspapers and second-hand books will also be available, as well as a varied menu.

The Mothership Group also owns pubs in Clerkenwell and Notting Hill.
