LUKE Wright might just be the hardest working man in poetry.

Since 2006 he's launched his own curve-ball bid to become Poet Laureate, programmed and hosted Latitude Festival's poetry arena (the largest poetry event in Europe) and has become the newest poet-in-residence on BBC Radio 4's Saturday Live.

In 2009 he took contemporary poetry onto primetime TV, writing all the poetry for Channel 4's The Seven Ages of Love, a 30 minute documentary that was broadcast to over a million people.

He has four solo poetry stage shows: Poet Laureate, Poet & Man, A Poet's Work Is Never Done, and his current show - The Petty Concerns of Luke Wright, which comes to Hoxton Square's Underbelly next week.

Following a launch at Edinburgh Fringe this August, Wright hosts the first in a series of stand up comedy nights at Underbelly.

It features Scroobius Pip, Polar Bear, Kate Tempest, John Hegley, Attila The Stockbroker & Aisle 16 & Friends.

The monthly gigs are supported by Purple Ronnie, which also began life as a stage act twenty years ago by its creator, Giles Andreae.

Purple Ronnie's Stand Up Poetry Club will be on September 17, October 15, November 19 and December 17 at Underbelly, Hoxton Square, starting at 7.30pm.
