River Lea getting super spring clean by volunteers

VOLUNTEERS are preparing to help spruce up the River Lea in East London with a spring clean.

The Big Tidy Up on March 7 is aimed at improving the riverbanks through Poplar, Blackwall and Canning Town.

The Bow Creek Tidy Up is part of a national drive by the Keep Britain Tidy campaign.

Volunteers on the day meet at Canning Town station at 10am and start by tidying up the path down to the Blue Bridge, then head south on the west side of the river to Trinity Buoy Wharf where the Lea joins the Thames.

Enthusiasts can volunteer online with the Lee Valley Authority or call 08456-770600.

Bow Creek Ecology Park is part of the Lee Valley Regional Park stretching 26 miles from the Thames northward to Ware in Hertfordshire.
