CAN you really be the face of Claire's Accessories and a credible music star at the same time?

Does launching your own range of sunglasses before your first album smack of, well, not taking music seriously enough?

Perhaps when you are only 16, have written a couple of great songs and sound like a cross between Hazel O'Connor and Cyndi Lauper... maybe it will be OK.

Alex Roots single Don't Stop Looking is her best composition and having listened to it months ago on her MySpace page, it comes as a bit of a relief to see it released.

Why? Well if you like her voice, and there are many who won't, this is a genuinely loveable song. There's a fabulous post-revivalist punk feel to it, but with an obvious love of Queen guitar work tied in.

Yes, anthemic rock in We Are The Champions and ground floor punk in God Save The Queen were of the same era. She seems to have her roots (no pun intended) in both camps.

Her first, download only, release Fake was fine. This multi format single is in a different leageue and, given the airplay, could bring her right up into chartland.

One request though. Ditch the poodle on the CD cover and the dress.
