Top pianist heads to The Rag Factory

A top pianist will be promoting the ideas of gender equality at a concert on Monday.
Christina McMaster has built a reputation of putting on bold performances and has also collaborated with a wide mix of artists throughout her career.
She will be performing at The Rag Factory as part of a wider event which concentrates on a project called Ensemble Wow.
The project focuses on performing concerts with works from new composers while highlighting gender equality and diversity.
Christina said: “Ensemble Wow is an idea that had been brewing for quite a while.

“We had our first concert last year, which was great.
“I’m really looking forward to the event, I will be playing my piano, and it’s right ahead of International Women’s Day.

“We also have new commisions by a very talented artist called Freya Waley Cohen who uses texts written by anonymous women from Afghanistan.”
Christina studied with Joanna MacGregor at the Royal Acdemy of Music, graduating and has since continued to perform in major venues across Europe.
She has also won numerous prizes including the Jacob Barnes Award for a collaborative and educational project, The Cavatina Chamber music trust prize and audience prize, and the audience prize in the Jacques Samuels Intercollegiate Competition.
She said: “I’ve always loved music and have been playing piano since I was a young girl.
“I also have a new album coming out in May, which I’m very excited about. It’s called Pinks and Blues.
“I’m also very excited about the performance, I’ve never performed at the Rag Factory but I know it’s a great venue.”
