‘Why Not People?’ staging UK’s first live gig for disabled at Troxy on July 1

The first-ever gig in Britain exclusively for disabled people and their friends is being staged in London’s East End on July 1.
It features appearances by Aluna George, Romesh Ranganathan, F2 Freestylers, and Flawless dance troupe.
The social enterprise Why Not People? is putting on the extravaganza at Stepney’s famous Troxy venue in the Commercial Road.
“This is just the first of many events,” social enterprise founder Jameela Jamil revealed.
“Our members and their mates can expect an unparalleled night at our launch event at the Troxy.

Musicians showing support include Coldplay, Calvin Harris, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Mark Ronson, Tinie Tempah, James Blake, Aluna George and Paralympic, as well as athletes Ade Adepitan, Jordanne Whiley, Hannah Cockroft and Hannah Russell and TV personalities Alex Brooker, Martin Dougan, Romesh Ranganathan and Sophie Morgan.

Why Not People? Is the UK’s first members-only club solely for disabled people to stage fully-accessible and inclusive events for its members.
It was set up in January to organize accessible live gigs and events for its members and to show what impact significant change in society has on the 11 million people in Britain living with disability, while helping solve issues they often face when going to live events.
Tickets for the Troxy gig on July 1 are on sale online to members only, but membership is free.
